Consultant purchasing rethought

In the current situation and the struggle for the right resources for specific issues, what has long been tried and tested in the media or IT industry is increasingly gaining ground: the use of consulting platforms. This can be used to fill (knowledge) gaps in a targeted manner and to find the right person for a project or interim position. And in doing so, it is not necessary to advertise a complete project, but in many cases simply a sensible addition to an existing project team.

The list of possible platforms or intermediaries is long. Some personnel consultancies and personnel service providers have been operating in the market for a very long time, whether they are called Hays, Robert Half, Adecco, Randstad or Manpower Group. Often, they also specialize in a few subject areas and rarely operate in the classic management consulting market. Often, this is more of a focus on IT and, in some exceptions, engineers.

Consequently, a digitalized variant has developed through which potential clients and consultants find each other. In practice, the most frequent inquiries we currently receive are via Comatch, which now belongs to the Malt Group, and Consultport. However, other solutions such as berater.de, www.letsfindexperts.com or consultingheads and klaiton should not remain unmentioned.

From personal experience as a consultant, I can only recommend Comatch. Because here the name is program, it concerns more than only facts and classical CV – it concerns also which advisor type am I and which advisor type is looked for. All orders that have come to me via Comatch so far have become successes.

COMATCH – from Consulting Match – has now been on the market since 2014 and has since grown to 80 employees and 8 European offices. The main headquarters are in Berlin, and the founders are the ex-McKinsey duo Dr. Christoph Hardt and Dr. Jan Schächtele.

As of mid-2018, the two-sided marketplace lists more than 5,000 consultants who have managed a total of more than 25,300 project days. With COMATCH, the client company pays. If a consultant could be successfully placed, then a surcharge of around 15 percent of the consultant’s daily rate applies.

Since 2022, Comatch has been part of the Malt Group, Europe’s leading curated marketplace for freelance management consultants and industry experts.

Positioned between traditional consultancies and recruitment agencies, consulting platforms occupy an interesting niche. According to statistics, the market for freelancers and self-employed professionals is growing. This plays into the cards of the consulting marketplaces. For freelance consultants, the platforms offer an interesting option to get new clients and exciting engagements.

ADCONIA – beyond the ordinary

As Adconia GmbH, we advise our customers with the experience of more than 250 projects from more than 18 years – in questions around purchasing, supply chain and the digitalization of processes. Our goal is always to increase the profit contribution of purchasing through cost reduction, process automation or the qualification of our customers‘ purchasing teams.

With a correspondingly broad wealth of experience, precise knowledge of everyday purchasing and a high level of professionalism, our consultants carry out training measures at eye level. We do this – depending on the requirements – both as a sparring partner for specialists and managers with many years of experience and as a trainer for seasoned purchasing professionals and young professionals.
